As someone who worked in prisons for 25 years, I can attest that the question asked in this article is a cross Christians must bear, and which has been answered (or sidestepped) by different Christian groups in different ways (most notably, Calvinists come to mind).

As a non-Christian, a recovering Catholic, I'm not bothered by it. I don't trust jailhouse conversions, and don't care about them.

I have helped convicted serial rapists gain parole. I consider their prison programming records, the amount of time they've done (which must be substantial), and conversations I've had with them to decide if I will support their release. I consider jailhouse claims of accepting Jesus as something that should comfort a person during incarceration, but as nothing else, particularly release.

Frankly, I welcomed religious volunteers as tools to be used to better control prison inmates.
