I don't know of any wars waged to defend, or in the name of, sports. I know of plenty waged over religion. Nor do I know of any territorial motivated wars waged in the name of any athlete or sports team.

Frankly, it's okay with me if people rather attend/watch a sports event than go to church. It would make the world a better place.
