Innocents who solicit money have to pay it because they profited from it. Think of all the money given to the Catholic Church by mobsters. Hell, think of all the money given to many Christian religions and institutions because of slavery. Those institutions having an iota of conscience attempt to make restitution.

Have you read the SEC complaint and order? Did the fraudster use the church's name to perpetrate the fraud? What was the nature of the fraud?

When large sums of money are being donated, an institution has an obligation to ask where the donner got the money, or real estate, or securities. Heck, most responsible politicians do, why not clergy?

You said illl gotten gains can be used to do God's work. That cheapens the very idea of God by making her a money laundering operation.

Winning the lottery is absolutely not the same as fraud. Those who play the lottery know the rules and risks. The defrauded don't. That why it's called fraud.
