Sex With Prisoners (#1): Recollections of a Retired Prison Warden
When ruminating on sex with prisoners, it is worthwhile to be mindful of what you contribute to the human condition. Illegal sex is a swirling swamp of needs and emotions; a Venn diagram of desire whose components are pleasure, excitement, acceptance, revenge, dominance and submission.
Illegal sex never just involves the immediate participants; its reach is far and contamination broad, yanking observers and responders, innocents and contributors and gossips, into that interlocking constellation of desires; all part of these scenes of sordid sexuality. It condemns institutions and destroys lives and families
How we judge illegal sex depends on who and what we are.
These are the thoughts of Warden Biggie Biggins when the medicating tonic of sleep is abandoned, when he once again is clenched by that swirling swamp endemic to prisons, nursing homes, schools, hospitals and orphanages; to any institution where the balance of power enables coercion of the kept by the keepers.
The Librarian
Warden Biggie Biggin’s first incident of illegal sex with prisoners involved a librarian, a woman named Sandra Sustel, who hired a prisoner named Gomery as her clerk.
Sustel kept the library open several evenings each week for prisoners who had day jobs. She was a damn good librarian; knew the ins and outs of our law book collection, a difficult quality to find in run of the mill librarians.
