“The Womb of the Wicked is Cruel”. An argument for Letting Women Die?

I live in Ottawa County, Michigan where there is much rending of garments today. Proposition 3 was just voted in as an Constitutional amendment that preserves a person’s right to heath care, including abortion.

Anti-Prop 3 signs spouted in this county like mushrooms on warm wet nights.

The anti-prop 3 sign pictured above includes a quote of Proverb 12:10: “The Womb of the Wicked is Cruel”.

I am no Biblical scholar, so I looked up the meaning of this Proverb. No matter which version of the Bible you care to use, this is being translated as “The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.”

Now, I have yet to come across anything that argues a fetus is an animal. If anything, this proverb is an admonition against animal cruelty, and a reminder that even kind acts by bad people are to be suspect, which I see as a condemnation of those who erected this sign.

I mean, is the argument that fetuses are animals that deserve are kindness and protection, but the lives of women are not?

What this has to do with abortion is beyond me, but is an example of how Christian evangelicals twist Biblical statements to support their political beliefs and condemn millions of voters.

Is it no wonder church attendance is at an all time low?
